Facial (A)Symmetry

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

Me, in Venice, 2004
I’ve been interested in the idea of checking my own facial symmetry for a while so when I found a website that did all the “hard” work for me, I thought I’d give it a go. Then I found out I had to have some silly plug-in to make it work so I did it myself with layers in the GIMP instead.

Not a great photo for checking it out on, but here goes…

This is a photo of me from our trip to Burano, Venice on Christmas Day 2004…

Teeth

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

As part of a research project I’m taking part in at the Leeds Dental Institute, I’ve just had my first ever scale and polish. I thought it would be a nice gentle procedure but it feels like I’ve been punched in the mouth about ten times. And at least six of those punches were delivered with a very thin, sharp object poked directly to my gums. Those type of punches hurt the most.

However, we’re having a curry tonight so all will be well once again.

Katherine and John’s wedding

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

Katherine and John cutting the cheese (phnar)Ok, it’s taken me 10 days to get these photos sorted but I’m back-dating this post to the day in question because, well, it makes me look more organised.

My good buddy Katherine got married to her John on Sunday 16 July, at Hollins Hall, just north of Bradford.

It was a beautiful sunny day but rather hot - Katherine bet me £1million that however hot I was, she was hotter though.

As anticipated, Katherine cried like anything through the vows and consequently sounded rather sarcastic as she said them: “yes, yes, to have and hold, whatever, get on with it before I have to blow my nose on the train”. (I paraphrase slightly).

I did a reading just after the “I do” bit and hopefully didn’t sound sarcastic (my default mode). I also had to avoid looking at anyone I knew (so, just Katherine, my John and Dan) in case I laughed or accidentally swore, neither of which I thought would go down well.

Dan with Alex and LauraWe hung around in the sun for a bit after the ceremony (while Katherine and John had some, nudge nudge wink wink, “alone time” in the wedding car) and then went inside to hide in the air conditioned bar/reception area. I took lots of photos of the photos being taken.

After the speeches and dinner, we managed to snag a couple of sofas and from there, watched Dan trying to woo both of the bridesmaids. It was simultaneously both hideous and amusing : )

I’ve put a couple of photos on here but there is a slightly wider selection on my Flickr account. The one up there at the top is of Katherine and John cutting the cheese (phnar) and the other one is of Dan in a bridesmaid-sandwich (also phnar). Click them for bigger versions of both.

My Saturday afternoon

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

You truly haven’t seen anything in life until you watch a grown man chasing flies around the room with a vacuum cleaner.

Lunch

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

I usually just have leftovers or ramen noodles for my lunch these days for the cheap and easiness factors but since we went shopping last night, today I had cream cheese and red jalapenos on a halved, then toasted floury, pavé-style french bread thing. It looked and tasted great. The jalapenos were very sweet, like spicy pickled peppers, and their subtle spice and not so subtle tanginess set off the creamy cream cheese very well indeed. I wish that I had taken a picture to remember it by AND made double the amount.

Today

Friday, June 9th, 2006

Today has been a fun day.

This afternoon I managed to combine three of my joint loves: recycling, making a noise and shouting at war criminals — we went to Harrogate to shout at George Bush (Snr) and his comrades at a Business Conference (he was talking, they were fawning), and made some rattles out of tomato/bean cans and out-of-date dried peas to shake while we were there (they were pleasantly noisy, just not as loud as the samba band that was there).

Then after a long, long traffic jam journey back south, we ate nachos and made merry before going for a curry. Mmm, curry on a belly full of nachos.

Then we went on a walk and a play in Heaton Woods in Bradford - John found a rope swing at the top of a scarily steep slope, and later on Gianni and I stepping-stoned across the stream and had to fight the evil bridge keeper (Kev) with our staves in order to be allowed back over to the main side of the woods. (There were many role-playing/MMORPG jokes made re: the staves. Only John and I got them, and I think John was faking to seem l33t.) Funny photos to follow.

A smashing day.
