1. Lily stares at the sticky sweet at the bottom of the waste bin, her tail banging on the floor. She would like it please.

1b. Later, her tail rustles a carrier with each wag, making it all the more noticeable when it picks up speed as she says hello and sniffs Strange-cat.

2. While out with Lily, I pop by the allotment and I find a – very established – grape vine I’d missed before, with grapes growing on it. Lily chews the long grass while I do my brief chores.

2b. I do a few reps on the weight machines while looking out at the soft sun over the hills of Calverley.

2c. Lily looks at me like I’m a doofus as I slalom around the gateway: why don’t I just go under it in a straight line like her?

2d. To return to a house smelling of garlic, onions and spices galore.

3. I pass the halfway point of my chunky striped scarf. I can’t wait until it is cold enough to wear it.
