1. The toast caught a bit so I thought it might be ruined but after a little careful scrapping and essential cooling, all is saved. The browned seeds are wonderfully nutty.

2. Kaufman wrestles John’s hand for a while then he (the cat) and Lily swap place – him from his beloved window seat to the sofa, her from the sofa to cuddle John on Kaufman’s cushion.

3. Twice I go into the porch and twice I’m rewarded with dog sightings: first, a little baby springer and next, the gaggle from yesterday all walking in a line.

4. Disembodied crowd cheers and clapping from beyond the trees. (It reminds me of where we used to live in Leeds, up an embankment from an all-weather pitch. We’d hear similar shouts and the trainers would also bring teams across the canal to run up the hundred stone steps from the basin to the park above – then we’d hear the sound of wretching and laughter.)

5. I need a film that’s not too loud, not filled with negativity or doesn’t need too much engagement while being interesting. I find one that fits the bill perfectly.
